Bathroom Remodeling in Gilbert, AZ
Bathrooms are the smallest rooms in the house and the hardest on it: water on every surface, steam in the air, and plumbing in every wall. That is why a bathroom remodel done right is as much about what goes behind the tile — waterproofing, plumbing, ventilation, and sometimes repair — as about the tile itself. Masizo Development & Restorations remodels bathrooms across Gilbert and the Phoenix Valley, from a single worn-out shower to a complete master bath, with demolition, tile, plumbing, electrical, and permits handled by one licensed contractor (AZ ROC #336058).
Every project starts with a free in-home estimate and a written quote. Call (602) 909-7630 or schedule a visit.

Hidden damage
What is hiding behind the old shower
Here is the uncomfortable truth about aging bathrooms: a shower can leak for years before you see it. Grout cracks hairline-thin, a failed pan lets water past the liner, caulk pulls away at the tub flange — and the water goes where you cannot look, into the wall cavity and the subfloor. By the time a stain shows on a baseboard or the floor feels soft, the moisture has been working for a long time, and in a closed, warm cavity that usually means mold.
The wrong way to remodel that bathroom is also the common way: demo the surface, see the damp framing, and tile over it anyway because moisture is not the installer's trade. The new bathroom looks perfect and seals an active problem inside a finished wall.
We built our bathroom process around not doing that. Masizo is an IICRC-certified restoration contractor (Arizona license AZ ROC #347030) in addition to being a general contractor, so when demolition reveals wet or moldy material, we show it to you, price the fix in writing, dry and replace the damaged framing and substrate, correct the source, and then build the new bathroom on a sound, dry structure. If the damage turns out to be extensive, our restoration team handles it inside the same project — no second contractor, no stalled schedule.
Showers & tubs
Showers and tubs
The tub-to-walk-in-shower conversion is the signature bathroom project of the last decade, and for good reason: most households use the tub a few times a year and step over it twice a day. The conversion removes the tub, relocates the drain and valve where the new layout needs them, waterproofs the enclosure properly — the step you cannot see and cannot skip — and builds a tiled shower sized to the space, with frameless or semi-frameless glass. Popular additions we build in: a tiled bench, recessed niches for bottles (instead of rusting wire racks), rain and handheld fixtures, and a low-profile or fully curbless entry.
If you love a soak, we go the other direction too: setting a freestanding tub as the centerpiece of a master bath, with floor- or wall-mounted fillers and the floor structure and plumbing to support it. Many master bath projects include both — a larger walk-in shower and a freestanding tub where the old oversized corner tub used to sprawl.
Tile & vanities
Tile, vanities, and the finishes you touch every day
Tile does the daily work in a bathroom, and we install it everywhere it earns its keep: shower walls and ceilings, floors (porcelain in wet rooms for its density and water resistance), and feature walls where you want the room's one bold move. Layout is design: stacked or offset patterns, large-format tile for fewer grout lines, mosaic bands and niche accents — we plan it on paper before the first cut.
Vanities anchor the room's storage and its morning traffic flow. We install single and double vanities with new tops and undermount sinks, matched to mirrors and lighting that actually help you see — including lighted mirrors, which have become the most-requested finish detail in our bathroom work. Faucets, hardware, and accessories complete the selections, and we handle ordering so everything arrives before demolition begins.
Plumbing & vent
Plumbing and ventilation: the unglamorous half that protects the glamorous half
Bathroom remodels routinely involve real plumbing: moving a drain for the new shower, replacing decades-old valves and angle stops while the wall is open, re-routing supply lines for a dual vanity. Our contracting license covers it in-house, so the plumbing schedule is our schedule.
Ventilation deserves its own paragraph, because it is the cheapest mold prevention there is. A bathroom without an exhaust fan — or with a fan that vents into the attic instead of outdoors — holds steam against ceilings and walls day after day, and damp surfaces in a warm room are an invitation. We install properly sized exhaust fans, ducted to the exterior, often with humidity-sensing switches so the fan runs as long as the moisture does, not as long as someone remembers.
Aging in place
Accessibility and aging in place
If you plan to stay in your home, the remodel is the moment to make the bathroom safe for the next twenty years: a curbless shower entry with no lip to trip on, a built-in bench, solid blocking inside the walls so grab bars can be mounted now or added later without opening tile, a comfort-height toilet, slip-resistant floor tile, and brighter, better-placed lighting. Designed in from the start, these choices look intentional — not clinical — and cost a fraction of what retrofitting them later would.
How it works
Permits, honesty, and how the project runs
Like-for-like swaps — a new vanity, re-tiling the same shower — often need no permit. Moving drains, adding circuits, and installing new ventilation usually do. We make that call for your specific scope, pull the permit, and book the inspections; the paperwork is ours to carry, not yours.
On timelines, the honest generic answer: a surface-level refresh with the layout unchanged typically runs a couple of weeks of on-site work; a full gut with moved plumbing, new ventilation, and inspections runs longer, and tile work cannot be rushed without paying for it later. The biggest schedule variable is rarely labor — it is material lead time, which is why we order tile, vanities, and glass before demolition and tell you the realistic window before anything is torn out. If the house has only one bathroom, say so at the estimate; we sequence the work to keep a toilet and shower usable as long as the scope allows.
The project itself runs in four steps:
- Free in-home estimate. We measure, look at the existing bathroom's condition, and talk through how you use the room — then deliver a written quote.
- Selections and ordering. Tile, vanity, fixtures, glass; we handle ordering and pull any permits before demo day.
- Build. Demolition to studs where the scope requires it — and this is where anything hiding behind the old surfaces is shown to you and repaired, priced in writing first. Then waterproofing, tile, vanity, fixtures, glass, paint.
- Walkthrough. We run every fixture with you — shower, faucets, fan, drawers, doors — and fix anything that is not right before we call it finished.

Good to know
Bathroom questions, answered.
What does a bathroom remodel cost?
It depends on the two things that always drive bathroom cost: how much plumbing moves, and what finishes you choose. A keep-the-layout refresh costs far less than a master bath with a relocated shower and freestanding tub. We give you a written, line-item quote after a free in-home visit — and if anything is added mid-project, it is priced in writing before the work happens.
Can you convert my tub to a walk-in shower?
Yes — it is the most common bathroom project we build. The conversion typically involves removing the tub, adjusting the drain and valve locations, waterproofing, and building a tiled shower with glass, with options like a bench, recessed niches, and a low or no curb.
What if there is water damage behind the old shower?
We fix it before any new tile goes up. Masizo holds an Arizona restoration license (AZ ROC #347030) and IICRC certification, so wet or moldy material is shown to you, dried, replaced, and documented as part of the job. We will not tile over a wet wall — that is how the next owner inherits a mold problem.
Does a bathroom remodel need a permit?
Swapping a vanity or re-tiling in place usually does not. Moving a drain, adding a circuit, or installing a new exhaust fan usually does. We make the determination for your scope and pull the permit and inspections ourselves when they are required.
Do you remodel full master bathrooms?
Yes — our range runs from a single shower replacement to complete master baths: dual vanities, freestanding tubs, large walk-in showers, tile throughout, lighting, and ventilation, planned and built as one project.
Can you make the bathroom safer for aging in place?
Yes. Curbless shower entries, built-in benches, blocking in the walls for grab bars (installed now or ready for later), comfort-height toilets, and better lighting can be designed into the remodel from the start — far cheaper than retrofitting them after a fall.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes: Arizona general contracting license AZ ROC #336058, Arizona restoration license AZ ROC #347030, California license CA LIC #1107781, IICRC certified, and insured.
